The purpose of the first stage is to select the most promising prototypes of intercalator dyes for further functionalization and improvement of their properties and to obtain reactive monomeric intercalator dyes that will be suitable for the synthesis of dimeric dyes. During the project implementation, we selected prototypes of fluorescent dyes-intercalators sensitive to the presence of double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) based on the literature and patent data, as well as the results of our many years of experience and testing of dyes from our own library of compounds. Data on the spectral and photophysical properties of fluorescent compounds, potentially suitable as fluorescent dyes-intercalators, were obtained, the ways of their further functionalization in order to improve their properties were proposed. The synthesis of reactive monomer dyes-intercalators was carried out, in particular, derivatives of acridine and unsymmetrical monomethine dyes for further synthesis of dimeric dyes-intercalators were obtained, their structures were confirmed , spectral and photophysical properties in the free state and upon dsDNA binding were investigated.
