Purpose - to assess the effectiveness using the genetic potential of the species Pisum sativum by screening of starting material and breeding lines and to create, on this basis, specialized pea varieties for food, grain and forage. Methods - intervariety hybridization followed by multiple individual selection. Theoretical and practical results – multi-year experience in pea breeding implemented in scientific and methodological recommendations "Pea Preeding. Breeding Peculiarities in Primary Nurseries". Sources of valuable traits of peas have been identified, and their donor properties have been assessed. The identified accessions are sure to be donors of certain agronomic characteristics and included in the scientific publication "Pea Breeding. Passport of Donors of Valuable Breeding Traits». Three new pea varieties (Malakhite, Kapitan and Samson) with a set of economically valuable features have been created to meet the various needs of the market. We produced a qualitatively new breeding material: grain pea breeding lines SL 10-84 and SL 10-24 (protein content in seeds up to 26%, starch in seeds up to 60%), grain/mowing pea breeding lines SL 05-193 and SL 15-161 (green mass yield up to 40.0 t/ha), which proves the possibility of multi-purpose industrial use of the crop, increases the efficiency of its cultivation, processing and use, ie contributes to the development of the domestic economy. Novelty - scientific and technical products are better than existing counterparts in Ukraine in terms of all key indicators. Implementation Efficiency - during the reporting period, the Laboratory contributed 18,156,600 UAH to the Institute’s special fund due to selling the scientific and technical products. Scope - pea varieties created at the Plant Production Institute nd.a.
