The aim of the work is to understand the dynamics of relations between Jewish and non-Jewish students at the Imperial University of Kharkiv in the pre-reform period. Investigate the social background of students' daily lives in the light of their contacts. Methods of research are prosopographic analysis of students 'profile, personality construction and self-identification of Jewish and non-Jewish students, reconstruction of internal perception of Jewish and non-Jewish actors of their contacts on the basis of biographical method, analysis of students' social network and trajectories of their mobility. The social experience of students, their origin in the social and geographical sense, their location in Kharkiv was explored. The network of student contacts in the Jewish and non-Jewish environment is defined. Information was collected about Jewish students, including those who converted to Christianity, who studied at Kharkiv University before 1862, their previous experience, legal and administrative status.
