Purpose - to create sunflower lines with high combining ability for economically valuable traits to obtain high-yielding sunflower hybrids with high adaptability to environmental stressors during the initial stages of development. Methods - field, laboratory, statistical. Theoretical and practical results – the peculiarities of temperature mode and germination length in the method of cold germination of seeds, which can differente sunflower lines and hybrids by tolerance to low above-zero temperatures, were experimentally confirmed. Sunflower lines were differentiated by tolerance to low temperatures at the initial stages of development; 5 highly cold-tolerant lines were distinguished and identified as sources of this feature (Skh 1006 A, Skh 93 A, Kh 720 V, Kh 4913 V, and Skh 777 A). The genotypic diversity of sunflower lines by breeding traits and their variability over the years was determined. Hybrid combinations of different ripeness groups combining increased cold tolerance with valuable economic characteristics and resistance to downy mildew were identified. Scientific novelty - early-ripening and middle-early sunflower lines - fertility restorers, with high combining ability, high resistance to downy mildew (9 points), increased cold tolerance (3-9 points), yields exceeding those from the check accessions by 0.35-0.77 t/ha and oil content in seeds exceeding that of the check accessions by 1.88-3.44% (Kh 4913 V, Kh 15107 V [branching forms], Kh 5713 V, Kh 15157 V [single-calathidium forms]) have been selected. Implementation effectiveness - sunflower lines were transferred to the NCPGRU and are recommended for developing hybrids with increased adaptability to environmental stressors during the initial stages of development Product Description popup.authors Andriienko Viktor V.
