Purpose: to form and maintain the National Bank of Cereals to provide starting material for the breeding of new varieties, scientific and educational programs and preservation of the gene pool for future generations. Methods: introduction; evaluation of accessions by field, laboratory and other methods; morphological identification; long-term storage; building up an information system on the gene pool. Results. The gene pool of 20,815 cereal accessions was formed: 6,052 winter bread wheat accessions, 3,103 spring bread wheat accessions, 219 winter durum wheat accessions, 1317 spring durum wheat accessions, 1,015 accessions of rare species and wild relatives of wheat and barley, 2,021 spring triticale accessions, 367 rye accessions (330 winter rye accessions, 35 spring rye accessions and two perennial accessions), and 4,804 spring barley accessions. Ranges of phenotypic variability for 2,466 spiked cereals were established. Eight trait collections, three genetic collections and one core collection were registered. In addition, a trait database was registered. "Database of Disease Resistance Genes in Spring Barley Accessions" was compiled. Novelty. All expression levels of the performance, adaptability and grain quality were determined. Accessions with genetic regulation of these traits were identified. Implementation. Our collections shorten the breeding process from three to five years and contribute to the creation of new high-yielding, resistant to abiotic and biotic factors plant varieties with improved grain quality characteristics.
