Purpose - to identify new sources of frost tolerance and to enrich trait collections for frost tolerance; to improve methods of diagnostics of viability of winter crops and to establish modern referent varieties of frost tolerance; to scientifically support winter crop cultivation in the region. Methods - field, vegetation and laboratory. The frost tolerance was evaluated for varieties and lines of the NCPGRU’s introduced material and breeding lines of winter bread wheat, winter triticale and winter rye. Of the varieties and breeding material, sources of high frost tolerance and winter hardiness were selected. Special trait collections for frost tolerance and winter hardiness formed in previous years were supplemented. Database of referent varieties of various levels of frost tolerance: for bread wheat - 3 accessions; for triticale - 1 accessions. The guidelines "Diagnosis of the Condition and Viability of Winter Cereals during Relative Dormancy" were improved. Two original lines of winter bread wheat have been created and registered with the NCPGRU: ХZ 51-18 and ХZ 59-18. New four winter-hardy and high-yielding winter bread wheat varieties have been created in co-authorship and submitted to the state variety trials; 4 varieties were included in the State Register. Trait collection of winter barley for frost tolerance, winter hardiness and valuable economic characteristics. Five new varieties of winter bread wheat were introduced by the NCPGRU and submitted for examination by economic characteristics. The peculiarities of adaptation of winter cereals to low temperatures were determined in cooperation with KhNAU. The resistance of varieties to early spring frosts was determined. The program of growing winter crops on farms in Kharkivska Oblast was scientifically supported Product Description popup.authors Iodkovskyi Vladyslav Z. Rieznik Anastasiia M. Riabchun Viktor K.
