Purpose: to ensure the formation and maintenance of the National Bank of Plant Genetic Resources of Ukraine by enriching it with new sources of valuable traits, maintaining the Information System “Plant Gene Pool”, registering gene pool collections and accessions, long-term storing gene pool seeds in the National Repository. Methods: organizational, informational, introductory, field, physiological, laboratory, statistical. Results: The information system comprising passports for 108,700 gene pool accessions was maintained. 300 collections and 2,167 plant gene pool accessions were registered, including 12 collections and 104 accessions in 2020. The NCPGRU introduced 2,724 new gene pool accessions, including 1,587 accessions of 104 crops in 2020. Of these, 1,382 accessions from Ukraine and 1,342 from 10 foreign countries. Three collecting missions were accomplished; 1,023 gene pool accessions of 185 plant species were collected. 3,557 packages with specimens were given to users. 74,400 seed samples are stored in the National Seed Depository. 3,600 seed samples were deposited in 2019–2020. Features of seed longevity of underutilized wheat species and forms were investigated. Methodical instructions on storage of wheat and rye seeds of gene pool accessions were developed. The NCPGRU scientifically and methodologically guided and coordinated the work of 28 institutions on the formation and maintenance of the National Plant Gene Bank. The gene bank numbers 151,100 accessions. In co-authorship with research program executors, 87 varieties of agricultural crops were submitted for the state registration.
