A technique of computer modeling using the finite element approach is proposed. Global and some regional models in subduction zones with different rheology of crust and mantle rocks are analyzed. Using energy and variational principles, several two-dimensional finite-element nonlinear models of thrust formation are constructed, which are solved by the finite element method. New numerical results on computer modeling of paleogeodynamic systems have been obtained. A method for studying mechanical characteristics related to orogenesis processes has been developed, and a tectonophysical interpretation of geological data and numerical modeling results concerning the structural evolution of the Ukrainian Carpathians has been given.
