The aim of the work is to study the viability of nitrogen-fixing bacteria of different species at rest with the formation of specific and nonspecific forms under the action of substances of different chemical composition, as well as the functional activity of diazotrophs after resting. Research methods - laboratory (cultural and morphological; deep cultivation; liquid phase fermentation; light microscopy; biochemical and physiological tests; gas chromatography); vegetation and field; mathematical and statistical. The influence of polymer additives, carbohydrates, polyhydric alcohols and protein substances on the transition of bacteria of the genera Azospirillum, Bradyrhizobium, Rhizobium, Azotobacter to a state of rest and preservation of their viability has been determined. It was found that the largest number of viable cells of the studied bacteria was with the use of polysaccharide-protein complex (PBC). The nitrogenase activity of bacteria, their ability to synthesize substances of phytohormonal nature and, accordingly, the growth-stimulating effect on cultivated plants after long-term storage remains high. The influence of PBC on the functional activity of nitrogen - fixing bacteria of different species during their introduction into agrocenoses of agricultural crops has been studied. It is established that application of the investigated complex allows to carry out premature bacterization of seeds. Based on the results of the performed research, a method of preserving the viability and functional activity of diazotrophs at rest has been developed.
