Purpose - to increase the efficiency of corn breeding by developing theoretical foundations of multi-criteria selection of breeding material to create hybrids for different purposes. Methods - breeding, genetic, phytopathological, statistical. Theoretical and practical results - in 2016-2020, 4,740 accessions were produced and studied in a breeding nursery; accessions valuable because of their economic characteristics, combining ability, resistance to bio- and abiotic factors were identified. 2,550 accessions were studied in a collection nursery; 12 inbred lines with valuable economic characteristics were registered with NCPGRU Ukraine; five donor lines received registration certificates. 120 haploid corn plants were obtained on sheltered ground. The pattern and rate of the water-yielding capacity of grain in 104 corn lines belonging to various ripeness groups from 12 countries were studied; a utility model application for "Method for Determining Water Content in Corn Grain" was submitted. 539 hybrids were competitively tested; large-scale field trials of corn hybrids were carried out in different regions of the Steppe and Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. Novelty - creation of high-yielding corn hybrids that are resistant to bio- and abiotic environmental factors. Thus, in 2016-2020 11 hybrids were transferred to the State Qualification Examination, including in 2020 two mid-early hybrids Hart FAO 280 and mid-ripening Arho FAO 300; 14 hybrids were entered in the State Register of Varieties of Ukraine. The methodical recommendations "Solving Optimization Problems in Corn Breeding and Seed Production using Microsoft Excel" were published. In 2016-2020, 129.5 tons of seeds were produced: 20.3 tons of parents and 109.2 tons of the first generation.
