Karazin Kharkiv National University popup.description2  The object of the study were physical processes and phenomena determining the elemental composition, structural-phase state and physical and mechanical properties of multi-element nitride coatings formed by vacuum-arc method with ion-plasma flows with highly non-equilibrium conditions and containing transition metals with impurities of nonmetals, in particular silicon. The paper investigates the regularities of phase and structure formation and develops physical understanding of the processes of formation of multicomponent nitride functional coatings deposited from one or two sources during vacuum arc sputtering of cathodes of different compositions. The influence of technological factors (pressure in the chamber, negative displacement potential on the substrate, cathode deposits) and substrate pretreatment on the structural-phase state and properties of coated composites was determined. Verification of the obtained fundamental data on the phase formation pattern and evolution of the coatings structure was carried out during tests of PCBN cutting inserts with different types of coatings. Suggestions for optimizing the process of plasma coatings formation for application under certain thermo-baric and keorosive influences are formulated.
