To ensure the further development of agriculture, including irrigated agriculture, it is necessary to develop directions for adaptation to global climate change. Climate-oriented agriculture in Ukraine should be based on three components: mitigation measures (reducing greenhouse gas emissions), adaptation (making agriculture more resilient to the effects of climate change) and increasing production at the stage of sustainable development. Based on the above analysis, a methodological approach to achieving the goal of the study is substantiated, based on two scenarios of climate change and, in accordance with them, the directions of agricultural development. As a result of the research, two scenarios of climate change have been identified: traditional and climate-oriented, and theoretical approaches and directions for adapting a climate-oriented scenario of agriculture to climate change have been developed and scientifically substantiated: an approach aimed at reducing the scale of threats and risks of climate change; an approach to reduce agricultural vulnerability; an approach aimed at increasing the potential for adaptation, as well as scientifically grounded directions of adaptation and development of a climate-oriented scenario of agriculture in the Southern Steppe of Ukraine in the face of climate change, provide for an increase in adaptive capacity, a decrease in risks and a degree of sensitivity, an increase in the potential for overcoming emergency events and to obtain benefits from agricultural activities in the face of climate change.
