A comparison of the capabilities of equipment based on AE method of the world's leading manufacturers was made. The effectiveness of AE-based procedures for taking a decision on the state of structure material was evaluated. Together with the specialists of JSC "OPZ" the system of continuous AE monitoring (EMA-4), which meets the world standards, has been implemented at the ammonia storage facility ST-4 OPZ. The system assesses the current technical condition of the facility in real time with the classification of zones of increased AE activity in accordance with the requirements of regulatory documentation and the built-in assessment algorithm with the issuance of an appropriate hazard warning. The system makes it possible to obtain a forecast of the state of the structure with the definition of residual life in the early stages of the defect development, which increases the safety of responsible industrial facilities, significantly reduce time and resources during repairs, and account the results when assessing the term and modes of their further operation.
