Work is relevant due to the fact that one of the priorities of technology development in many industries is to reduce the mass of parts and structures, while maintaining a high level of physical and mechanical properties. Magnesium alloys are the lightest metal structural materials that are 4 times lighter than steel and 1.5 times lighter than aluminum alloys, have high specific strength, good shock and vibration absorbtion, easily machined and welded. Use of magnesium alloys is limited to relatively low modulus of elasticity. We have previously found that the diffusion of gallium in magnesium alloys contributes to the increase of the modulus of elasticity and microhardness. This effect can be used to enhance existing and develop new magnesium alloys, which will increase the limits of their use. In the course of the work, the effect of increasing the microhardness and the modulus of elasticity of magnesium alloys of different grades during their alloying with gallium will be studied in detail and the necessary modes of heat treatment and concentration of the alloying element will be determined. The result will be a model and recommendations for alloying existing and developing new Mg-X-Ga magnesium alloys. Implementation of the results will allow to obtain significant economic effect and will promote wider introduction of light magnesium alloys in different industries, which will significantly reduce the mass of structural elements and ensure the proper level of physico-mechanical properties.
