The experiments determine the conditions and prove the possibility of stable existence of a non-independent arc discharge in pure vapors of the molybdenum anode and in a mixture of molybdenum vapor with argon. The main characteristics and regularities of vacuum arc discharge operation in the vapor-gas mixture of molybdenum vapor with argon are determined. The possibility of smooth transition of a stably existing arc discharge from a vapor-gas working medium to pure molybdenum vapor, or vice versa, is proved. Studies of non-independent vacuum arc discharge in molybdenum vapors during evaporation of the working material by an electronic gun were performed. It is shown that the change in vapor pressure of the working material can dramatically change the appearance of its volt-ampere characteristic. Under conditions of low vapor pressure and low discharge currents, the type of its volt-ampere characteristic is close to the type of volt-ampere characteristic of a non-independent arc discharge in a gas. При збільшенні тиску парів молібдену та струмів розряду вид вольт-амперної характеристики становиться близьким до виду вольт-амперної характеристики несамостійного дугового розряду в парах матеріалу анода, але розряд існує при суттєво менших значеннях напруги розряду.
