Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2  The level of expression of polyamine metabolism enzymes (ODC, SPSY, PAO, SAT1), the levels of the main fractions of polyamines (spermine, spermidine, putrescine) and acetylated forms of polyamines (acetylputrescine, acetylspermidine, acetylspermine) were studied in benign prostate tumors. It was found that the levels of the gene expression of ODC (the main enzyme of polyamine synthesis) in benign prostate tumors are significantly higher compared to malignant tumors. The high levels of expression of spermine (SPSY, the enzyme of polyamine synthesis) were also detected in benign tumors, in contrast to malignant tumors, while in malignant tumors SPSY was detected only in trace amounts. It was found that the levels of gene expression of the polyamines catabolism enzymes (SAT1 and PAO) in BPT cells are lower than in malignant cells. It was shown that the levels of polyamines (putrescine, spermidine and spermine) exceed in benign prostate tumors the values of these indicators in malignant prostate tumors (5.27; 2.55 and 5.03 times, respectively). Some differences in the levels of polyamines were revealed depending on the morphological form of BPT. Thus, there was a tendency to increase putrescine in nodular adenomatous and basal cell forms of hyperplasia, higher values of spermidine in glandular-stromal hyperplasia found slightly, compared with atypical, glandular-fibrous and nodular-adenomatous types of hyperplasia. The III and IV degrees of infravesicаl obstruction (IVO) were revealed in the examined patients with BPT. Slightly higher levels of putrescine and spermidine were observed in benign tumors with IVO (III) compared with tumors of patients with IV grade IVO. Levels of acetylated spermidine and spermine were higher in tumors with IVO (IV), on the contrary IVO (III). Product Description popup.authors Bentrad Veronika V. Zaletok Sophia P. Klenov Oleg O.
