The concept of "open science" and its role in the democratization and promotion of science and new technologies, in motivating the learning and use of science are studied.The study examined modern social media and substantiated the directions of their use to promote science in the information society. A typological classification of social media according to the specifics of content and communication strategy is proposed. An information and communication model of the scientific community in social media has been developed, which allows to popularize science and identify areas for improving the use of social media by scientific institutions.30 popular science pages and groups of the social network Facebook, 27 social networks Instagram and 9 Ukrainian-language YouTube channels were studied. The methods of commercialization of research results through social media are analyzed and recommendations for its effective implementation are developed.Practical recommendations and theoretical developments of the scientific project are used in scientific and practical activities of: National University "Chernihiv Polytechnic" (reference № 202 / 08-723 from 06.11.2020); Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics (reference № 104 dated November 9, 2020); University "University of Economics and Law" KROK "(reference № 133 from 16.11.2020).
