Possibilities of converting excess thermal energy of mine waters into electricity are investigated. Parameters of pumped out mine waters are estimated, which allow covering the needs of consumers in thermal energy with modules based on open non-return or circulatory systems with a capacity of several MW and maintaining a hydrodynamically safe level of mine waters and reducing CO2 emissions by several thousand tons during the heating season. The results allowed justifying the stages and indicators of ecologically safe and economically expedient transformation of energy balance of coal mining enterprises under liquidation through additional production of thermal energy with the usage of mine waters.
