On the first stage of the study GC-MS was used to identify the components of gas mixtures obtained in result of 1-MCP-based complexes decomposition. In GC-MS analyses chromatography conditions were employed allowing good separation of 1-MCP and methylenecyclopropane peaks, the latter being the integral component of the mixtures with 1-MCP. The experimental results show that GC technique allows reliable determination of 1-MCP concentration, which is by two orders of magnitude less than the expected one when using 1-MCP-based complexes in the vegetable storage facilities. For the deferred analyses of 1-MCP or 1-MCP-based complexes, the procedure for 1-MCP chemical modification was developed with further HPLC analyses of the derivate – dimethyl-2-(2-methylcycloprope-2-yl)maleate (DMMM).
