The work is aimed at creating a modified surface layer in a zirconium alloy Zr1% Nb by the method of chemical thermal treatment (CHT) to reduce the effect of hydrogenation and corrosion processes that reduce the working life of products. As a method for the formation of the phase-structural state of the near-surface layer of the material, chemical-thermal treatment was used, which consisted of thermal diffusion saturation with oxygen and nitrogen of the surface layers. It was found that CTT does not reduce the mechanical properties that had samples of Zr1% Nb alloy in the initial state. The influence of CTT regimes on the peculiarities of oxidation in air and hydrogen saturation of samples of Zr1%Nb alloy was considered. It is shown that the CTT modes, which were used during the work, lead to an increase in the surface hardness of the samples, a decrease in the weight gain during oxidation in air at a temperature of 550 °C for 100 hours and a decrease in the hydrogen concentration during hydrogenation.
