Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2  Based on the analysis of the expression of the chemokine receptor CXCR4 and its ligand CXCL12, it was shown that in the tumor cells of patients with endometrial cancer stage I-II lower expression of CXCR4 (43.3 ± 4.2%) and increased expression of CXCL12 (33.6 ± 2 , 4%) were observed compared with tumors of patients with stage III (63.6 ± 3.5%, 24.5 ± 1.9%, p <0.05, respectively). In tumors with deep invasion in the myometrium, a high (> Me) content of such immunosuppressive components of the tumor microenvironment as CXCL12+-fibroblasts (14.9 ± 1.3%) and M2-macrophages (14.3 ± 1.8 cells/fv) was observed, which was associated with increased microvascular density (41.4 ± 5.3 vessels/mm2). Tumors with > 1/2 myometrial invasion were characterized by high (> Me) expression of transcription factor Twist (18.0 ± 3.5%), which probably determined a higher level of expression of the chemokine receptor CXCR4 and contributed to the polarization of M1-macrophages and was associated with significant variability in the number of tumor cells invading the myometrium: from small clusters to large areas of fairly monomorphic histiocyte-like cells with hyperchromic nuclei.
