Pathogenetic chains of onset and course of cholangitis in choledocholithiasis, in strictures of the bile ducts, in reflex cholangitis and already imposed biliodigestive anastomoses and in the compression of the main bile ducts by an external factor have been established. A new classification of cholangitis is proposed, which is based on these developmental schemes and indicates appropriate surgical treatment tactics.
