The aim of the work is to develop the theoretical basis for the creation of medical cannabis varieties with no (low content) tetrahydrocannabinol and high content of non-psychotropic cannabinoids based on the establishment of genetic and physiological mechanisms of their synthesis. Research methods - general scientific methods (analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, generalization, comparison, classification, ranking), field, special selection (selection, self-pollination, hybridization), biochemical (thin layer and gas-liquid chromatography), biotechnological, mathematical statistics. Theoretical bases of creation of industrial hemp of medical direction of use with the increased content of nonpsychotropic cannabinoids and absence (or the minimum content not exceeding 0,08%) of tetrahydrocannabinol are developed. Experimental improvement of cannabinoid compounds identification by thin layer chromatography for selection purposes has been carried out. Hereditary and environmental factors that determine the formation (synthesis) of CBD and other cannabinoid compounds in ontogenesis have been established.
