The object of research is the process of forming professional and value orientations in students. The subject of research – theoretical and methodological principles of formation of students' professional and value orientations to work in modern socio-economic conditions. Research methods: theoretical: study, analysis and generalization of philosophical, pedagogical and psychological literature; methods of comparative analysis, interpretation and generalization of facts; empirical: generalization of pedagogical experience, pedagogical experiment, diagnostic methods; statistical: methods of mathematical statistics; monitoring the implementation of GDR results. The main achievements of the theoretical and ascertaining stage: the essence of the concept "professional and value orientations of students to work" as a complex integral formation of personality, characterized by certain for older adolescents and young people professional and technological knowledge and methods of action, accompanied by relevant moral and value achievements and as a result are objectified in emotional experiences of personal significance of work within a certain profile of training. Its structure is developed, the following is defined: cognitive criterion; emotional and motivational criterion; criterion of arbitrary impulse; practical and effective criterion; self-worth criterion. The levels (high, medium, low) of the formation of professional and value orientations of students to work are characterized.
