Based on the study of performance indicators of rabbits of domestic and foreign selection, it was found that the direction of selection of the studied breeds showed a difference in meat productivity of rabbits. A study of body sex shows higher values ??of indicators that determine meat productivity in specialized breeds - New Zealand white and Californian compared to domestic Poltava silver. The use of index selection makes it possible to carry out effective selection of animals by live weight and to develop effective schemes for the selection of pairs based on an objective assessment of the animals used for reproduction. The use of methods of index assessment of productive traits allows to objectively identify broodstock and rabbits for the formation of a highly productive population of rabbits on the basis of live weight. Descendants of animals had the maximum indicators of live weight, the selection indices of which for males were not less than 60 points, females - 55 points, respectively, which should be taken into account when planning breeding work with populations.
