The scientific novelty of the research results is that the concept of «subject reading competence» is defined and the essential characteristics of its components are presented for the first time; the theoretical bases of competence teaching of Ukrainian literature in lyceum are substantiated; the methods of competency-based teaching of Ukrainian literature in the lyceum at the standard leveldeveloped and experimentallytested (a system of competency-oriented questions and tasks is created; the specifics of the implementation of artistic and literary contextsare revealed, types and methods of applyingofthe interdisciplinary interaction identified during the processing of educational material); are the basic provisions of the methodology of competence teaching of Ukrainian literature in the lyceum in the content and of structure of the textbook «Ukrainian literature. Grade 11» (standard level) are implemented. The materials of the research can be used in the process of developing of educational and methodological support of the high school cource of Ukrainian literature in accordance with the concepts of NUS, professional training for future teachers of vocabulary, during the development of thematic curricula in general secondary education.
