Korolenko National Pedagogical University popup.description2 The project is first to address the Ukrainian society of the 18th-19th century regarding such measures of quality of life: the size and structure of families, patterns of mortality, fertility, marriages, life expectancy, and incomes. The project is based on three methodological principles: micro-data analysis, longitudinal analysis, and interdisciplinarity. According to the timeline of the project, the team members worked on the following tasks. First, relevant and representative sources were selected. These sources are reliable and diverse in terms of territorial coverage and variables. At this stage, the research team processed the General census materials and revisions of the 18th-19th centuries. To this end, the research team collected data from the Central State Historical Archive in Kyiv, the State Archives of Chernihiv r-n, the State Archives of Sumy r-n, the State Archives of Poltava r-n. In total, 53 census books were selected from a list of more than 3,000 sources. These books contain information about the inhabitants of 49 villages and large cities in the region: Poltava, Nizhyn, Starodub, Pereyaslav. These selected sources are original census lists that cover more than 30 thousand people with a wide range of variables describing individuals: names, gender, age, marital status, family relationships, health status, place of birth and place of residence, social status, and affiliation, occupation and earnings, property. According to the project timeline plan, at this stage, the team members photocopied the relevant pages (or made extracts) of all the necessary information for its further coding during the next stages of the project. As a result, the research team has obtained a necessary sample of sources with relevant information about their content and localization. Moreover, an archive of necessary documents (scans, copies, extracts, electronic and paper versions of published sources) was created. These data represent all ten regiments of the Hetmanate.
