The purpose of the study is to carry out a comprehensive theoretical and methodological analysis of the phenomenon of identity of the social subject, to reveal its nature and functions, to substantiate the conditions for the possibility of effective identity policy in the context of socio-cultural transformations. Research methods - comparative and critical analysis of various theories of the phenomenon of identity of the social subject; phenomenological method in the explication of especially the phenomenon of identity of the social subject; synergetic approach in the analysis of the parameters of stability of social systems, structural-functional, socio-typological, activity approaches in the analysis of the study of social phenomena. The research is conditioned by the needs of social practice of formation of historically new forms of identity, which requires maximum adequacy of socio-philosophical reflection on the phenomenon of identity of a social subject in the context of socio-cultural transformations. The result of the study can be considered the development of techniques for modeling national identity.
