Objective of research is preservation, optimization and efficient use of animals Askania-Nova Zoo collection. Purposes of the work are a complex data analysis of many years for morphological peculiarities of rare introduced wild and hunting species of fauna of the south steppe region of Ukraine, solution of some issues of methodology for biodiversity conservation in the animal collection of the zoo, definition of the degree of interaction of the avifauna of the zoo's wetland complex with the reservoirs of the region, study of behavior and parasitological state of ungulates. Research methods are generally accepted methods of zoology, morphology, ecology, ethology and parasitology, traditional laboratory microscopic, morphometric and mathematical-statistical methods, cameral handling of the obtained data, photo-fixation of research objects. The level of functional significance of the complex of artificial reservoirs of the Askania-Nova Zoo for birds of the wetland complex in different periods, and species composition, number, index of species permanent staying and key territorial locations in different biotopes are determined. The role of the zoo's reservoirs together with the adjacent natural depression in preserving the diversity, and a structure of the avifauna were established. The population characteristics of the semi-free Askanian local population of sika deer, a degree of variability of exterior and interior and craniological indicators are studied. Dimensional, weight, craniometrics features of European mouflon are established. The dynamics of numbers in the zoo, the exterior of Barbary sheep and Markhor were studied. A scientific inventory of osteological material of Caprinae and Turkmen kulan of the Reserve’s Museum was carried out.
