Research methods - physical experiment, X-ray phase analysis, optical and electron microscopy, mechanical and tribological tests. A series of conductor electric explosions (CEE) in propane-butane, blasting of titanium, tungsten and copper wires with a length of 80 mm and a diameter of 0.3–0.9 mm in the range of the initial charging voltage of the capacitor 8–40 kV and its capacity 5−50 μF . Differences in the characteristics of CEE of refractory metals and high-conductivity copper are determined. Experimental data confirm the possibility of CEE in organic gas to simultaneously synthesize in the form of nanosized powders and apply to the structural surface as a coating carbide phases Ti and W. Morphological features of the products of electric explosion of the conductor indicate that the carbide formation process takes place in the liquid phase. The increase of energy deposition in the refractory conductor before the explosion contributes to the increase of carbides in the products of CEE up to 100%, and the growth of their dispersion depending on the material and geometry of the conductor. Recommendations for the selection of optimal electrical parameters for the maximum yield of carbide phases of refractory metals and coating for tribological purposes have been developed.
