As shown, the dielectric polarization resulting in a fast increase in temperature in pores, which are pre-saturated with carbon etching agents (e.g., water, oxalic or formic acid), provides the selective etching of pores "from inside" thus increasing their size. As a result, more pores become accessible for electrolyte. The characteristics of synthesized materials have been studied in double layer capacitor prototypes with the use of methods of cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy and galvanostatic cycling, and an increase in the electrode capacitance by ~20% has been found. As additional advantages of MWT due to the predominant etching of pores "from inside”, a significant reduction in processing time (from hours to minutes), low energy consumption and a low degree of carbon “burning”, i.e., the loss of carbon due to treatment (on average 5-7% only) should be mentioned.
