The purpose of the study is to establish the influence of conditions of activation of red sludge of aluminum production on the elemental composition of activation products for regulation of physicochemical properties of the obtained materials for the needs of natural and wastewater treatment. Research methods - processes of acid neutralization of red sludge, X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, atomic adsorption spectrophotometry, heat treatment of solid residue after neutralization; sorption and coagulation processes using jar tests and sedimentation tests. The rational composition of red sludge (RS) activation reagents for obtaining a new composite coagulant (CC) and modification of activated carbon to achieve higher quality has been established. The efficiency of using СС with a rational ratio 0,5/1-1/1 for the extraction of fulvic and humic acids from water has been studied. Rational conditions for the use of CC for the treatment of high-turbidity wastewater are established. It is shown that at the hydraulic size of the precipitating particles 1 mm/sec in 1.5 times more precipitate by weight is formed. It was found that the solid residue of RS after double activation (acid and ammonia solution) effectively removes nitrate and phosphate ions and Fe (III) ions from water. It is established that the use of activated carbon impregnated with liquid products of the activation of RS in the processes of extraction of nitro- and chlorinated phenols significantly increases the rate of their desorption and the efficiency of eluent desorption. The analysis of possibilities of application of RS in processes of biological clearing of landfills of accumulation of the waste disposal is carried out, it is shown that alkaliphilic bacteria and the majority of extremophilic strains can grow to pH values 12-13.
