The purpose of research is to substantiate modern approaches to obtaining genetically safe drinking water due to a rational combination of the latest methods of purification and control of water of different quality. Methods -spectrophotometric, chemical analysis; light microscopy, micronucleus test and method of nuclear characteristics. Main results: Regularities of photochemical and photocatalytic destruction of salicylic acid by hydrogen peroxide in water medium under UVС irradiation were established. Rational concentrations of oxidant and Fe3+ ions were determined to achieve almost complete mineralization (96–98% by TOC in 1–2 h) of salicylic acid in the process of homogeneous photocatalytic oxidation (Fe3+/H2O2/UV, λ = 254 nm). The expediency of using ultrasonic treatment and UV irradiation of water volume surface microlayer for the most complete destruction and removal of water impurities is shown. Modified membranes based on linen cloth with a separating layer of polyvinyl alcohol have been developed. It is established that the use of a microfilter with a maximum pore radius of 0.7 μm and a dynamic membrane of hydroxopolymer iron complexes formed on its surface provides almost complete removal of iron from artesian waters. Micronucleus test and the method of nuclear characteristics on the blood cells of zebrafish and meristems of onion roots were selected to determine the genotoxicity of the water sample. Criteria for assessing genetic disorders in the cells of test organisms in the contamination of drinking water with toxic compounds: copper and zinc ions; pentachloro- and nonylphenol are established.
