It was established, that continuous Ca3Y2-хYb2х(BO3)4 and Sr3Y1-хYbх(BO3)3 solid solutions are formed for the concentration ranges. Unit cell parameters of Ca3Y2-хYb2х(BO3)4 and Sr3Y1-хYbх(BO3)3 solid solutions are changed according to nonlinear low because of re-distribution of cations over crystallographic sites. It was shown, that for Ca3YYb(BO3)4 crystals grown by the Czochralski method in an inert atmosphere the crystal structure decomposition with the formation of CaY1-хYbх(BO3)O phases occurs in the temperature range of 600–900 C. Ca3YYb(BO3)4 single crystals can be grown by spontaneous crystallization of melt. The maximum value of the hardness Hv for the plane (100) was observed for the Ca3YYb(BO3)4 crystal in comparison with Ca3RE2(BO3)4 (RE-Y, Nd, Gd) crystals. The value of hardness Hv is approximately 20% higher than for Ca3RE2(BO3)4 (RE-Y, Nd, Gd) crystals (RE-Y, Nd, Gd). The difference of hardness values for Ca3RE2(BO3)4 (RE-Y, Nd, Gd) and Ca3YYb(BO3)4 crystals is a result of the re-distribution of Ca and REE cations over the M1-M3 crystallographic sites and the different packing densities of the crystallographic plane (100).
