The object of study - the topology and stress-deformed condition of building systems and individual structures, which need to be rationalized. The subject of research - the formation of external and internal geometry and features of deformation of the object of research. The purpose of the work is to create a modification of the method (philosophy) of rational design of building systems and technologies of their construction, including verification of the obtained results. Research methods - the methods of analytical, engineering and structural mechanics, as well as methods of functional and mathematical analysis are used in the research. Numerous methods of the mechanics of a deformed solid and, in particular, the finite element method and the method of adaptive evolution were used in solving problems. The experimental component of the approach is based on the use of technological and software tools of the automated research system. Results and their novelty: on the basis of the conducted theoretical and experimental researches the basic directions are defined on the application (implementation) of direct (rational) design of various building structures in the field of engineering industry. Stage of implementation: the results of scientific research are fully implemented in the engineering industry, reconstruction, renovation of public buildings and technical structures. Interconnection with the educational process: a comprehensive interconnection aimed at training highly qualified specialists in construction and civil engineering in the urban economy.
