The object of research is the formation of the architectural and urban structure of the largest cities (on the example of Kharkiv). The purpose of the work is to identify strategic directions, perspective trends, principles, methods of forming the architectural and design environment of the Kharkiv region 2020-2023 in the conditions of sustainable development and development of modern methods of architectural and design education. Research methods - research is based on systemic, environmental, environmental, general scientific approaches. In the course of the research the methods of historical-architectural analysis, genetic analysis, typological analysis, field surveys, comparative analysis were applied. The research work presents architectural and design techniques and principles of development of the object of study - the objects of the urban environment in the architectural and urban planning and landscape and ecological aspects. Improvement of methods of research and design of architectural and town-planning structure of large and largest cities on the example of Kharkiv region in the conditions of their sustainable development for the decision of social and functional, aesthetic and ecological problems is defined. Methodological and methodical schemes of the decision of questions concerning problems of preservation and improvement of architecture of cities from positions of humanization of the environment, greening, harmonization and improvement of functional structure are offered. Recommendations for the use of research results: introduction into the development of projects of detailed planning of master plans of cities and their structural elements, for dissertation research of architectural and town-planning character, as well as for scientific developments on this topic.
