Key words: heat-insulating material, polystyrene foam, insulation of facades, the spread of fire, fire resistance. Currently, in the practice of construction, various heat-insulating materials are used to reduce heat loss, such as polystyrene foam, mineral wool, polyurethane foam, glass wool, perlite and the like. Modern heat-insulating materials have a wide range of applications, with the help of which they perform the insulation of roofs, exterior, interior and basement walls, floors and floors. One of the most common applications of thermal insulation materials is the insulation of building facades. The design with facade thermal insulation is a constructive solution in which the thermal insulation layer is attached to the load-bearing part of the wall by means of adhesive and/or mechanical fastening means with the application of a finishing coating on the thermal insulation layer, designed to provide standard values of thermal performance of wall structures, to protect structures from environmental impacts, ensuring the regulatory microclimate of rooms and providing facades of buildings and structures with an attractive aesthetic appearance. The use of expanded polystyrene as an external insulation is not a unlawful action, however, under certain conditions, with external thermal insulation of buildings with expanded polystyrene, there is a massive violation of regulatory requirements, which can lead to unsatisfactory temperature and humidity conditions in winter. It is possible to use constructions with plaster lining with combustible thermal insulation for houses with a nominal height of 15 m, if the facade system does not spread fire. This ability is evaluated by the results of full-scale fire tests, which are carried out for the "Methodology for natural fire tests of heat-insulating-finishing systems of the external walls of buildings and structures for the spread of fire".
