Key words: ignition, spontaneous combustion, smoldering, fire, propagation speed, grass ecosystem. A review of literature sources related to the study of fires in grass ecosystems is carried out. Dependences of the speed of fire propagation in grass ecosystems are established. The ignition temperature, self-ignition, smoldering, and the ignition time, self-ignition, smoldering, change in mass and humidity, in the drying process for the most common grassy vegetation onions were investigated. Corresponding dependences were obtained within 5 days under laboratory conditions. According to the results of the experiment, the average values of the ignition temperature, self-ignition, smoldering and ignition time, self-ignition, smoldering, and the change in mass of the five most common herbaceous plants were obtained. The property of decreasing the values of all studied parameters with drying time is revealed. The most fire hazardous species among the studied plants have been established. During the first period of work (April 2018 - November 2018), the available information was studied and primary sources on the research problem were published. The information was systematized, the selection and adaptation of the techniques and algorithms necessary for further application in the work was carried out. Also formed analytical and theoretical data. During the second period of work (December 2018 - October 2019), experimental studies were carried out in laboratory and field conditions. Checked the results of work. And the implementation of the results was carried out.
