Methods: general scientific (analysis and synthesis, typology, classification, formal logic) and special historical (problem-thematic, chronological, comparative-historical, analytical, descriptive, retrospective). Purpose: to identify insufficiently studied problems of national history, to explore them, taking into account regional characteristics. Results: topical issues of historiography and source studies of the history of Ukraine are studied, some aspects of political, socio-economic and cultural development of Kharkiv region are analyzed; the issues of the modern history of of Ukraine were studied. Degree of implementation: introduced in the educational process of higher and secondary school, used to create scientific and popular science works on the history of Ukraine and the region, the development of excursion routes. Recommendations for the use of work results: in the educational process of higher and secondary school; in further investigations into the problems of the history of Ukraine; publication of scientific monographs and articles, preparation and defense of dissertations, speeches at scientific and practical conferences, writing textbooks. Significance of the work: contributes to the rethinking of national history, preservation of the historical memory of the nation, strengthening national and patriotic education. Conclusions: it is necessary to continue and deepen research in the following areas: study of socio-economic characteristics; political and cultural development of Kharkiv region; generalization of historical achievements of outstanding historians of the region; ethnic processes and problems of preserving the historical memory of past events.
