Purpose: to study the folklore and literary heritage in the context of the collective and historical memory of the inhabitants of the Lower Dnieper region. The necessity of deepening researches of specific features of two basic forms of functioning of the Ukrainian folklore memory and features of translation of historical memory in modern literature is clarified. A study of the correlation between the forms of collective (folklore) memory and the genre system of folklore, historical prose and song in particular; the forms of reproduction of the memory of Zaporozhye in historical songs are clarified, the study of this problem in heroic and patriotic thoughts is emphasized; the character of reproduction of the present in the newest folklore works is analyzed; the character of the reception of the Holocaust memory on the material of Ukrainian fiction is studied. The collection and recording of works of oral folk poetry, in which the collective memory of the past is engraved, the formation of an archive of folklore records has been continued. The results of the research were introduced into the educational process (in particular, they were used in lecture courses, in the development of topics for term papers and qualification research of bachelors and masters).
