However, in the late ХХth century took shape as an independent scientific field. During this period, several monographic population works were published, which summarized the results and identified ways of further research. A galaxy of pioneering scientists in the field of population botany was formed. The name population biology and ecology became attached to the new direction. With the development of population research, the interests of scientists expanded, and population biology and plant ecology as a holistic scientific field began to include various aspects of studying populations, namely: elucidation of population structure of plant species, analysis of ecological niches, phytocenotic habitats, phytogenic fields, ecological and phytocenotic strategies, the state of individuals as elements of populations, population structure, intra- and interpopulation interactions, stability and population dynamics. Along with the development of certain areas of population research, recently, more and more widely used and integrated approaches to the study of populations. They allow you to more deeply and thoroughly understand the patterns of population life and more effectively solve a number of practical applications. The introduction of an integrated approach to the study of phytopopulations, in particular, is associated with the formation, existence and development of the Sumy Scientific School of Population Ecology of Plants under the leadership of Dr., Prof. Yu.A. Zlobina, formed at the Department of Ecology and Botany of Sumy NAU. Accumulation of experience in the field of population ecology of plants and constant growth of urgency of the problem of phytodiversity conservation became the basis for research on "State and dynamics of phytopopulations in ecosystems of Northeast Ukraine degree and nature of anthropogenic impact ".
