The extensions of solid solutions and homogeneity ranges of compounds were determined, and phase diagrams of 58 ternary, 34 quasi-binary and 3 four-component systems were constructed. The conditions of formation were established and the methods of synthesis of new and modified intermetallic phases were optimized. Using X-ray powder and single crystal diffraction, the crystal structures of 291 intermetallics, 26 hydrides and other inorganic compounds were precisely determined, taking into account substitutional disorder, vacancies, deformations, stacking disorder, etc. Several new structure types were discovered. To describe the crystal structures of intermetallics, intergrowth and topological invariance theories were proposed, and composition-structure-property relationships were derived. Quantitative characteristics of the chemical bonding were established and the electronic structures were calculated for 35 new multicomponent compounds. Chemical and physical properties of various compounds and solid solutions were determined experimentally. Samples were tested for functional properties: catalytic, electrotransport, magnetic, mechanical, and sorption properties. Ukrainian patents were obtained for thermoelectric and thermometric materials - solid solutions based on Heusler phases TiNi1-xCuxSn, TiNi1-xRhxSn, and Ti1-xScxCoSb, and the skutterudite NixCoSb3 - as well as for methods of coating the surface of machine elements made of alloys.
