In the Latvian bodies of water, this fish is able to replace the local ichthyofauna, making so-called “Chinese sleeper water bodies”. The lower feeding activity of this fish in Ukraine, comparing to Latvia, was registered. The larvae of mayflies can be considered as the most important dietary item of the Chinese sleeper, both in Latvia and Ukraine. The significantly lower parasite fauna is registered in Latvia, which is support for the «enemy release hypothesis». In Ukraine, the Chinese sleeper in included into the life cycles of parasites of amphibians and reptiles, which was not registered in Latvia. There are three haplotypes of cytochrome b are registered in Europe. Our molecular data confirm the existence of the «Carpathian population», which inhabits the basins of Dniester, Danube, Dnieper, Vistula and Southern Bug. Another, «Baltic population», which is registered in Latvia, possible originated from the first introduction of the Chinese sleeper to St.-Petersburg in 1914.
