It was determined that the system of emergency medical services provided to victims during the hospital stay in Ukraine requires establishing of at least 30 level I trauma centers physically based at university regional hospitals and in cities with a permanent population coming to over 1 million; nearly 200 level II trauma centers based at level II general hospitals providing intensive care, 300 level III trauma centers based at level I general hospitals providing intensive care. A total of 530 trauma centers should be created in Ukraine. The treatment of victims with severe trauma is 40-60% more effective and 50-60% less expensive in trauma centers than in surgical/trauma units of health care facilities.
