S. Berezhnoy" popup.description2 The research object is low-cement silicon carbide castable. The purpose of work is mastering of improved production technology of low cement silicon carbide castable. The research methods are physical-mechanical, chemical and petrographic ones. In JSC “The URIR named after A.S. Berezhnoy” the improved production technology of low-cement silicon carbide castable with a combined silica-containing additive was mastered. The castable properties are: SiC – 85 %, Al2O3 - 11.4 %, CaO - 1.36 %; grain composition 2-0 mm; flowing – 105 % (at a humidity of 5.5 %); cold crushing strength: after 7 days of curing and drying at a temperature of 110 °C (2 h) - 39.8 N/mm2, after firing at a temperature of 1580 °C (2 h) - 156 N/mm2. The influence of medium (air and reducing) and firing temperature (in the range of 1000-1580 °С) on the main properties of castable samples was investigated. It was shown that, with increasing firing temperature in the air medium in the range of 1000-1580 °С, silicon carbide content in the castable samples decreases. At temperatures of 1200-1300 °C, silicon carbide content in the castable samples does not change, and the oxidation is slowed down due to a formation on the surface of silicon carbide grains the viscous melt of glass phase. Increasing the firing temperature above 1300 °C leads to more intense oxidation of silicon carbide grains to SiO2, which causes a change in the porosity, density and strength of the samples, so the using temperature of the above castable in the air medium should not exceed 1300 °C. It was found that, after firing in a reducing medium in the temperature range of 1000-1580 °C in castable samples, the silicon carbide content remains virtually unchanged, and the density and strength increase. In JSC “The URIR named after A.S. Berezhnoy” pilot batches of silicon carbide products were made. The work should be continued in the direction of expanding the production and use of silicon carbide refractory materials.  Product Description popup.authors Kostyrko Inna Yu. popup.nrat_date 2021-03-29 Close
