For the first time in Ukraine, a general description of the structure of pelagic and benthic communities in the contact zones – potamocontour, pelocontour and lithocontour of the north-western part of the Black Sea – was provided. Based on the generalization of long-term data, the taxonomic diversity of phyto- and zooplankton in the contact zone "river-sea", as well as the main groups of meio- and macrozoobenthos in the potamo-, litho- and pelocontour were analyzed. The main ecological factors that play a leading role in the processes of formation of biological diversity and bioresource potential of contour biotopes were determined. Based on the structural indicators of the communities, an approach for estimating the trophic status of contact zones was proposed and an assessment of the ecological condition of contact biotopes was provided. The peculiarities of the formation of biological diversity in the waters of seaports and adjacent areas were analyzed. Special attention was paid to the development of marine ecological status class criteria for monitoring studies. As a result of a comparative assessment of the ecological status of mentioned contact biotopes, the new approaches for the diagnosis of anthropogenic pressures were proposed. The data presented in the report are of great importance as monitoring observations of changes in the formation of marine biota in the north-western part of the Black Sea and its responses to natural and anthropogenic impacts over 10 and 20-year periods. The report contains 374 pages, 86 figures, 111 tables, conclusions, recommendations, references. Key-words: Black Sea, contact zones, potamocontour, lithocontour, pelocontour, phytoplankton, zooplankton, zoobenthos, ichthyofauna. Product Description popup.authors Bondarenko Olena S.
