It was shown that ultrasonication of the anodic nanoporous alumina in a concentrated (0.1 – 1.0 mol/L) solution of the metal salt or complex in an organic solvent was crucial for ensuring the even spatial distribution of the impregnating particles. It was found that galvanic replacement between the palladium complex and aluminum took place upon ultrasonication of the anodic alumina layer on an aluminum plate in an aqueous solution of (NH4)2PdCl4, contrary to the same process with NiCl2. Hydrogenation of a substituted imidazo-[1,5-a]-pyridine by hydrogen gas at 1 atm with UV-spectroscopic control in a minimal volume of dry methanol was proposed as a model reaction for evaluation of the catalytic activity of the composites.
