Grishka NAS of Ukraine popup.description2  In order to assess atmospheric deposition and anthropogenic pollution of the natural environment, the content of 24 chemical micro- and macroelements (Al, As, B, Ba, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, K, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni, P, Pb, S, Se, Sr, Ti, V, Zn) was determined in the samples of the indicator moss Pleurozium schreberi (Brid.) Mitt., collected from 131 sampling sites of the monitoring network within the Volynsky and Novgorod-Seversky Polesie. Of these, the deposition of 11 toxic chemical elements (Al, As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Ni, Pb, V, Zn) was studied within the framework of the International Cooperative Vegetation Program (ICP Vegetation), which is carried out by 27 European countries, according to the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution (LRTAP Convention, UNECE) with the aim of compiling a colored Atlas of atmospheric air pollution based on moss monitoring data). The following series оf accumulation of chemical elements in P. schreberi moss samples on the territory of Northern Ukraine was established: K> Ca> S> Mg> Al> P> Fe> Mn> Na> Zn> Ba> Ti> Sr> B> Cu> Pb> Ni > Cr> V> Se> Cd> Co. The maximum content of the most dangerous toxic chemical elements in the moss samples (μg/g of dry weight) was following: Al – 1782, As – 1,806; Cd – 1,01; Cr – 5,30; Cu –15,8; Fe – 2115; Hg – 0,456; Ni – 25,1; Pb – 7,72; Sr – 27.44, V– 6,97; Zn – 94. With the help of the cartographic analysis, geostatistical methods such as factor analysis and biplot, as well as variogram analysis, the main zonal and regional patterns of atmospheric deposition, features of air migration, sedimentation and accumulation in P. schreberi moss samples of investigated chemical elements in Volyn and Novgorod-Siversky Polissya, as well as Northern Ukraine have been established.
