The work was aimed at scientific support of the environmental radiation monitoring system as an element of the national radiation protection system. Generalization of experience, scientific and methodical researches of the environmental radiation monitoring department of the UGMI in the direction of studying the state of environmental radioactive contamination at the Chernobyl exclusion zone and the impact zones of the former uranium sites. Preparation of methodological documents, manuals and textbooks, which summarizing many years experience in analytical provisions of the radiation monitoring programs, in particular, using the methods of alpha- and liquid scintillation spectrometry, taking into account modern quality control requirements for radionuclide detection in the environment. The legal and regulatory framework of the radiation monitoring system in Ukraine were analyzed in frame of the Section 1. The generalization of the monitoring and assessment of the radioactively contaminated areas results studied in the works of the department is given (database of performed works for a 20-year period, developed models of electronic passports of the radiation-hazardous objects). A draft national report was prepared at the request of the IAEA on the «State of the radiation monitoring system in Ukraine», analytical reports: on the state and prospects of development of the national network of radiation monitoring in the structure of HMS, Assessments of the consequences of deepening of the Pripyat River at the territories of the Chernobyl exclusion zone.
