It is determined that indicators of sustainable development of resort destinations are certain, available for observation and measurement, characteristics, standards and conditions that allow tracking changes in the economic development of the resort, its socio-cultural significance for regional development, systematize environmental impacts, etc. It is proved that the basis for the formation of resort and recreational potential is the use of available recreational resources and the possibility of combining them to create an attractive living environment. Based on the research, an algorithm for determining the resort and recreational potential of the region by the availability and development of certain territorial recreational resources in the region (its individual districts) on a scale. According to the analysis of the obtained results, the resort-recreational potential, the current state of development of the sanatorium-resort industry and resort-recreational use of the territories of Odessa and Kherson regions were assessed, which allowed to formulate scientifically sound recommendations for sustainable development of health tourism in the region.
